Read Free in the Libby App

There is a free app, Libby, for e-books/electronic books. It’s free to download on your computer and/or phone and you just add your library card information. You can sync your computer with your phone so you can read anywhere!

There are a lot of Reading Program books available as an e-book or an audio book in Libby. It is particularly great for the children’s books! It does include images of the pages so you can still see all the pictures! I love to read these to my son.

This maroon and teal reader is the image for the Libby book app that is free and will tie to your library card.

Connecting Through Quilts

One of First UMC's Circles, The Joy Circle, went to the Texas Quilt museum in La Grange, Texas. We saw some of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Prizewinners. This exhibit is no longer there but other amazing exhibits are featured. They frequently change the exhibits, so check on their website before you go.

"The quilts are confirmation that the art of quilting is still very much alive in Texas."

After visiting the museum we dined at the La Grange Country Club. There are other delicious restaurants on the town square you could visit before you head out.  The Joy Circle has visited the Quilt Museum for 2 years now and plans to make this an annual outing.

Sani-Pads Delivered to Girls in Kenya

In March of 2024, 104 girls and young women each received a zippered case with three Sani-Pads and four heavy duty safety pins (in case snaps come off), as well as three panties each. Saint John’s United Methodist Church's UWF members donated funds, cut the fabric, and sewed 312 pads which our member Nancy Lehmann-Carssow delivered to them at the Nkasioki Maasai school in Kenya the week of March 3, 2024.

This love put into action means these girls no longer have to stay home during their menstrual periods each month. The request for these items made by the school's male principal has now been granted. Six other UWF members have had the privilege of visiting this school in recent years.

Texas Legislative Event

At the end of January the United Women in Faith sponsored the 37th annual Texas Legislative Event. There, over 200 women from across Texas participated in workshops and heard speakers regardingeconomic justice to support public schools and protect maternal health, how to support voting rights, statistics about Texas gun violence, climate change and immigration. The third day was spent visiting the Texas Capitol and meeting with legislators and their staff. I represented the Capital District at the Legislative Event.

Texas Impact is our state’s oldest and largest interfaith legislative network, representing more than 5 million Texans. Their mission is to provide a presence of religious social concern to the Texas Legislature, designed to influence public policy on behalf of the poor, the disadvantaged, and victims of discrimination. Texas Impact equips people of faith and conscience with information, opportunities, and outreach tools to educate their communities and engage with lawmakers on pressing public policy issues.

Capital District Leadership Training

We're sharing photos from our Leadership Development event on January 20, 2024. We are indebted to Toni and Emmanuel UMC for the terrific hospitality and lunch. Congratulations to Wesley United Methodist Church for the longest average tenure with United Women in Faith! Many thanks to our leaders and everyone for braving the cold! We had a great and generous response to our mission project for cold weather items for Emmanuel and we were able to bless those items for those who will benefit. Please share any photos you are comfortable sharing with us here and tag your unit or church's Facebook group if you have one! We know we didn't capture all the units represented.

Emmanual's Blanca Navidad

On December 9, 2023, the UWF had their annual Blanca Navidad (White Christmas ) event.   It was well attended.  We collected booties/socks for the women’s shelter.  We also have been providing goodie bags for the homeless and the church has been collecting blankets for the homeless.  Everyone had a great time playing games, exchanging gifts and of course eating foods especially made by the ladies.  So much laughter was good for the soul!  Blessings to all!

150 Years at Memorial

Memorial United Methodist Church celebrated its 150th Anniversary December 9-11, 2023. Memorial's UWF were responsible for planning and running the weekend. MUMC celebrated with a festival day Saturday that included a mayoral proclamation, its community partners, musical performances, and a history exhibit. Sunday after Advent worship there was a Swedish lunch to honor it's origins and fellowship with previous pastors, founder Carl Charnquist's descendants as well as those of original member families, and lots of hugs and tears. A few photos are shared below. You can see more on Memorial's Facebook page.

Cancer Awareness

Emmanuel United Methodist Women in Faith from Austin, Texas had their Cancer Awareness program on October 29, 2023 in their Spanish Service and English Service.  This dreadful disease has affected many women in their church.  Testimonials were given on healings and struggles.  There were many who were called into the presence of our Heavenly Father.

These women provided pastries, breakfast tacos, fruit and drinks for the members of the church in between services.  It was a beautiful time together. This is a dynamic group of women who passionately love the Lord.

Legacy Fund News

March 2020

We have exciting news to report.  The Legacy Fund Endowment is currently at $31,068,959 and growing.  The endowment is performing well, already bringing in over $4.9 million in interest.  It is money that is working for us!

As a permanently invested endowment, The Legacy Fund will forever be a source of income for United Methodist Women.  Therefore, we are continuing to fundraise, promote, and grow the fund to reach and surpass our $60 million goal by securing major gifts, 1869 Society planned gifts, monthly Legacy Builder pledges, and gifts to the Every Member Campaign.

Mission giving must always come first because it supports all of the current mission and advocacy work we are doing as an organization.  The Legacy Fund Endowment is money for our future.  Proceeds from the invested funds will endow future core expenses so that even more money can be directed to support and grow vital mission work throughout our country and the world.

We ask you to continue to promote and support The Legacy Fund throughout your local units.  Our gifts are at work!

Youth Groups Visit Montopolis Friendship Community Center

Written by artkade on September 20, 2015. Posted in News

The UM Army youth group, from First UMC Pflugerville and some friends from their area, came over to MFCC on July 8, 9 and 10th. On July 25th the youth group from Cedar Park UMC came for a work out.

The group from Cedar Park UMC brought along friends from Japan who are visiting churches in the United States. All of the youth took the center by storm. Their many projects included painting, yard work, cleaning closets, and working in the Clothing Room. The Center is now so clean it sparkles, and prepares the United Methodist Women for the new school year and fall programs.

THANKS UNITED METHODIST YOUTH!
